Espace d’interactions, l’espace public répond à toutes sortes de définitions et d’usages : lieu d’échanges, lieu de pratiques collectives et individuelles, lieu de partage et de conflit, de représentation et d’expérimentation, lieu d’exception ou de quotidienneté, lieu de citoyenneté ou d’indifférenciation, lieu politique entre consensus et dissensus… Aujourd’hui, alors que les spatialités du monde contemporain s’expriment et s’impriment dans l’espace public compris dans toutes ses dimensions – échelles, temps, physiques, immatérielles –, comment les jeunes architectes, designers, paysagistes et urbanistes européens conçoivent-ils ces espaces et proposent-ils des points de vue innovants??
D’explorations en interactions,
dix regards sur le monde
Parcourant plusieurs sites en Europe et dans le monde, ces dix travaux d’architecture et de paysage témoignent de postures et d’attitudes en prise avec des changements sociaux, environnementaux et économiques. Ils explorent des démarches alternatives de fabrication du projet, par le récit ou la fiction, l’observation de phénomènes naturels ou l’immersion dans des communautés humaines informelles. La variété des situations exposées ouvre à d’autres échelles, d’autres imaginaires, d’autres manières de penser l’espace public dans le territoire, ce qui fait communauté, échange, solidarité, coopérations, interactions.

arc en rêve and EnsapBx have jointly organised Boarding, a call for graduation projects from schools in Europe, in the fields of architecture / town planning / landscaping / design / land use. Boarding is an initiative aimed at supporting and encouraging investigation and creativity in the living environment, and at spotting emerging talents. The jury for the first edition in 2014, whose theme is Interactions, has selected 10 graduation projects.
As an interactive space, public space corresponds to all kinds of definitions and uses: it is a place for exchange and for collective and individual acts; a place for sharing and a place of conflict, representation and experimentation; an exceptional place and a place of day-to-day experience; a place of civic awareness or anonymity; a political space where consensus and dissent coexist; and so on. Today, at a time when the spatialities of the contemporary world are being expressed and deployed within public space in all its various dimensions – scale, temporality, physical, intangible – how do young European architects, designers, landscape architects, and urban designers conceive these spaces and offer innovative points of view?
From exploration to interaction:
ten views of the world
Relating to several locations in Europe and around the world, these ten architecture and landscaping initiatives reflect postures and attitudes that display a sharp awareness of social, environmental and economic change. They explore alternative approaches to the construction of a project, via narrative or fiction, the observation of natural phenomena, or immersion in informal human communities. The wide variety of situations shown opens the door to alternative approaches to scale, new imaginary perspectives, new ways of thinking about the relationship between the public space and the local area, and new perspectives on what constitutes a community and the ways in which its members interact, cooperate and help each other.
